About Us

Located atop scenic Blackrock Mountain amidst Mountain Valley Taxi Resort, Smoky's Black Bear Cafe is co-located with the Mountain Valley Taxi Real Estate office.  Take the right onto Blue Ridge Drive just before you get to the Wintergarden Spa.  You'll see our carved wooden bear out front.  If you get to the sign for the golf course, tennis center, and Devil's Grill restaurant  you've gone too far!

Our genuine North Carolina style pork barbecue isn't just delicious, it's the real deal!  In fact, we like Hursey's BBQ and Brunswick Stew so much we go to Burlington, N.C. to get it!  Our coleslaw and german potato salad were made with recipes passed down for generations.  Local bakeries provide our delicious pastries and breads.

We are located in historic Nelson County, Virginia in the Appalachian Mountains.  You can access the Appalachian Trail at Reid's Gap, the crest of the Blue Ridge Mountains.  You'll find a ton of things to do and see around here, from hiking to biking to sightseeing, antiquing, bird and nature watching, and just plain relaxing in one of the most beautiful places on earth!
